Sustainability at Golden Resort

A Sustainable Holiday in Tahko

At Golden Resort, sustainability is reflected in the choices we make every day. We continuously develop our operations with respect for the environment, local nature and people – from energy use and recycling to responsible sourcing and local cooperation. We want our guests to enjoy everything Tahko has to offer responsibly, today and in the future.

Sustainability in Practice

Sustainability is built through both small and significant choices. We continuously work to reduce the environmental impact of our operations and develop Golden Resort in a more sustainable direction.

Energy and Water

We use solar energy in our main building and have installed air-source heat pumps in our villas and semi-detached villas. We also reduce energy and water consumption through energy-efficient lighting and water-saving solutions.

Sorting and Recycling

Our accommodation includes clear waste sorting instructions, and we aim to reduce the amount of waste generated while improving the recycling of materials.

Sustainable Mobility

Golden Resort has eight 22 kW electric vehicle charging points. We also use an electric vehicle for maintenance trips between our properties.

Sustainable Choices

We favour environmentally friendly products and practices and aim to reduce unnecessary use of materials. We also use more environmentally friendly products and methods in our cleaning.

Green Key

Golden Resort is a Green Key certified accommodation provider. The international Green Key environmental certification was first awarded to Golden Resort in 2020.

Green Key guides us in continuously developing our operations in a more environmentally sustainable direction. Its criteria cover areas such as saving energy and water, reducing and sorting waste, responsible purchasing, and engaging both staff and guests in sustainable practices.

Suistanable Travel Finland

Golden Resort has been awarded the Sustainable Travel Finland (STF) label by Visit Finland in recognition of our long-term commitment to developing sustainable tourism.

We are committed to developing Tahko as a sustainable travel destination and to following Tahko’s principles for sustainable tourism. These principles consider not only the environment, but also local communities, cultural heritage, safety, equality and the positive impact of tourism on the region.

  1. We actively communicate the sustainable tourism measures already taken to travellers and other stakeholders.
  2. We promote smooth travel connections that make use of public transport. We encourage visitors to get around Tahko on foot and to use the ski bus and the existing trail network.
  3. We provide guests with guidance on waste sorting and continuously improve our own recycling, sorting and waste reduction practices. We ensure that there are enough recycling points in the area.
  4. We take measures to reduce energy and water consumption and encourage our guests to do the same.
  5. We improve accessibility while taking the needs of different visitor groups into account.
  6. We employ local people and work together with other businesses to increase the number of year-round jobs.
  7. We cooperate with the local community through participation, co-creation and communication. This includes organising joint events, working with village associations and youth and sports clubs, and developing trails and routes that benefit both local residents and visitors.
  8. We know the local service providers and producers and make use of their products and services. We also encourage visitors to buy products from local producers.
  9. We respect local culture – including traditions, history and stories – and incorporate it into our services as authentically as possible.
  10. We invest in safety and are committed to ensuring safe operations in the future.
  11. We work towards becoming an increasingly year-round destination. This includes developing our trail network for the snow-free season, creating new events and offering activities for every season.
